Turkish Statistical Institute (Turk Stat) Chairman Muhammed Cahit Sirin was dismissed and replaced by Deputy Chairman Ahmet Kursad Dosdogru by proxy, a statement by Turk Stat said. Sirin had been appointed to the post on May 22, 2020. TurkStat had recently established advisory boards comprised of well-known academics, following criticisms about its calculations of inflations and unemployment data.
There were speculations about a possible change in TurkStat management following the key changes in economic posts in late 2020. President Erdogan had removed replaced the Central Bank Governor Murat Uysal by Navi Agbal on November 7 and Lufi Elvan replaced Berat Albayrak after his resignation on November 8.
Ahmet Kursat Dosdogru received his bachelor’s degree in Economics from the Middle Eastern Technical University in 2004. He started his career as an assistant specialist in TurkStat Van Directorate. Dosdogru was appointed Deputy Chairman of TurkStat in 2017.
