There has been a development regarding Chinese automobile manufacturer Chery’s investment in Turkey.
A Turkish official announced that talks on Chery’s investment in Turkey have reached the final stages.
The official, who requested anonymity, told Reuters that Chery, which is in talks to build a vehicle factory in Turkey, did not give information on what scale or which products it would invest in.
Turkey, already one of Europe’s major vehicle producers with a production capacity of 2 million commercial and passenger vehicles, has been in talks with Chinese carmakers seeking to set up production facilities abroad.
Chinese automotive manufacturer BYD announced in July that it would establish a vehicle factory in Turkey with an annual capacity of 150 thousand vehicles with an investment of one billion dollars.
Most recently, Chery International President Zhang Guibing met with President Tayyip Erdoğan and Industry Minister Fatih Kacır at the weekend.
“Planned investments in Turkey continue smoothly”
Following the allegations that the Chinese government had “called on electric car manufacturers to ensure that their technology stays at home”, it was reported that the investments made and planned to be made from the said country to Turkey continued smoothly.
The Ministry of Industry and Technology had reported that no disruption was expected in the negotiations with BYD and Chery for factory investments in Turkey.
