Since the host of the games is the city of fashion, we cannot talk about the Olympics without mentioning the outfits and the uniforms representing the countries.
It’s been a couple of days since the Paris 2024 Olympic Games started.
Since the host of the games is the city of fashion, we cannot talk about the Olympics without mentioning the outfits and the uniforms representing the countries.
To begin with, the luxury house LVHM is serving as the lead sponsor. Since it is the Olympics, every uniform of the teams represents the athletes’ home countries and, in some cases, shows us the rich cultures. Here is a peak of some of the kits that caught eyes.
Starting with my favorite one which is for the team Mongolia. Crafted by Michel & Amazonka took everyone by storm. According to the Mongolian National Olympic Committee each uniform took an average of 20 hours to make. The silhouettes are inspired by the traditional Mongolian “deals,” which are asymmetrical robes with billowing sleeves and a pleated skirt. We can see the attention that went into the details, such as the motifs on the top related to the Paris Olympics and to the country of Mongolia, or the well thought accessories.
Michel & Amazonka also designed the ceremonial uniforms worn by Team Mongolia in the Tokyo Games in 2020 and in 2022 for the Beijing Games.
Moving on, we have Ralph Lauren for the The Team USA. Ralph Lauren is a classic American brand, a staple in many wardrobes.
Ralph Lauren has been an official sponsor and outfitter at Wimbledon since 2006. This year, for the Olympics, Team USA wore a classic America-in tailoring, what the brand is known for. “This iconic apparel serves as a symbol of unity and inspiration for both our team and the millions of fans who will be cheering them on,” says Sarah Hirshland, the US Olympic & Paralympic Committee CEO.
We also need to mention the Team for the host Country, Berlutti for the team France. Berluti designed tuxedos using the colors royal blue with a burnished lapel with a red/blue ombré to represent the country’s colors with an elegant touch. They created the looks for the Olympic and Paralympic games.
I would like to finish this review with my country, Team Turkey, whose uniforms were designed by Vakko, one of the biggest Turkish fashion/luxury houses. Sadly, the uniforms failed to portray Turkey’s rich culture. The media criticized it, saying that it looked like pyjamas, and there was a debate about the colors used.
