On the 19th of September 2924, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons presented their spring 2025 ready-to-wear collection.
Raf Simons came to Prada as a co-creative director in 2020. Their collaboration creates a fascinating dialogue between past and future. Mrs. Prada’s forward-thinking approach blends seamlessly with Simons’ ability to reinterpret and refresh the brand’s archives, resulting in a dynamic interplay of innovation and heritage. This synergy not only honors the fashion house’s rich history but also pushes it into new, exciting territories, making each collection a unique exploration of style and identity.
This catwalk took place inside the Deposito at Fondazione Prada in Milan. It showed us futuristic elements but also new interpretations of some old Prada pieces. It felt like individual anti-algorithm fashion, emphasizing a return to personal style.
Going back to the origins
Raf Simons took a new point of view on some of Prada’s archives or just kept the same silhouettes and prints. We can see the striped heels from F/W 2008, leather sandals from S/S 1996, oxford platforms from S/S 2011, and towering cap-toe Mary-Janes from F/W 2012 (all resurrected from the archives in the S/S 2025 collection).
Unique vision of the future
Even though there were many inspirations from the archives, there were also many ‘futuristic’ pieces. Miuccia Prada is renowned for her visionary approach to fashion, constantly pushing boundaries and setting new trends. As the creative force behind Prada, she has a reputation for blending avant-garde concepts with timeless elegance. Each season, she not only captures the zeitgeist but also anticipates future fashion trends, often mixing unexpected elements and challenging conventional ideas about beauty, style, and gender.
Her forward-thinking designs have influenced the fashion industry for decades, making Prada a constant source of inspiration for both established designers and up-and-coming talents. Miuccia Prada’s futuristic and avant-garde approach to fashion is evident in these bold, trendsetting pieces. The metallic wraparound sunglasses, visor hats with see-through panels, and experimental textiles all speak to her ability to push the boundaries of traditional fashion. These elements, blending function with high fashion, often evoke a sense of the unconventional and futuristic. Her use of eccentric materials and cutting-edge silhouettes creates a vision that is as daring as it is forward-looking, establishing her as a constant innovator in the industry.
These accessories and textiles challenge traditional ideas of luxury, offering a modern, sometimes otherworldly, aesthetic that reflects Prada’s unique vision of the future.
Personal style
In the show notes, Miuccia Prada commented on the impact of Internet algorithms, highlighting how they’ve contributed to a sense of uniformity in fashion. As algorithms feed consumers similar trends, individual style risks being lost in a sea of sameness. Prada’s response to this was seen in the disjointed, eclectic looks on the runway, which intentionally resisted coherence and predictability.
By embracing this clash of styles and materials, Prada seems to call for a return to personal expression, encouraging wearers to break free from the algorithmic influences shaping contemporary style. The show championed the idea of individuality, suggesting that fashion should once again reflect the individual’s personal, unique choices rather than following prescribed, algorithm-driven trends.
In the backstage, Prada stated, ‘basically it seems that algorithms direct us, so anything we like and anything we know is because other people are instilling it into us’
This was not only something new for us but also something entirely new for Prada too. Miuccia Prada expressed herself ‘I was very, very nervous for this show, much more than usual. It was a different approach; instead of having three or four themes for the season, we were trying to do the whole in our way.”
As Prada being one of my favorite fashion houses, watching the show really excited me and I saw a new face of Prada and made me discover more about it.
