After launching its activities in Kazakhstan with the acquisition of the Russia-based mining company Mechel’s chrome assets in 2013, Yildirim Holding will build a calcium soda ash production plant in Jambyl with a USD 400m investment. The facility will also be the first soda ash production plant in the country. The foundation for the facility is expected to be laid in Q3 this year under the banner of Qazaq Soda AS subsidiary. The production plant will employ 1,000 people and will have an annual production capacity of one million tonnes. The Jambyl region was selected as the production area in 2017, when Former President and current Chairman of the Security Council of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev met with Yildirim Holding CEO Yuksel Yildirim at the EXPO Congress Center in the Kazakh capital Astana.
