The unemployment rate increased by 0.7% to 13.4% in February, compared to the previous month, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat). The youth unemployment rate reached 27%, while non-agricultural unemployment rose to 15.3% in this period.
The number of unemployed people aged 15 and over rose by 250,000 to 4,236,000 in February, compared to the previous month. The unemployment rate rose by 0.7% to 13.4%, while the unemployment rate in the non-agriculture sector reached 15.3%.
Meanwhile the number of employed people declined by 22,000 to 27,477,000, while the employment rate fell by 0.1 points to 43.4% in this period.
The youth unemployment reaches 27%
The youth unemployment rate including the 15-24 age group rose by 0.4% to 26.9%, while the employment rate declined by 0.3% to 28.1% in this period. The labor force participation rate in this age group dropped by 0.1% to 38.5%.
The non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose by 0.6 points to 14.1% in February, compared to the same month of the previous year. The number of unemployed people increased by 206,000 to 4,445,000 in the same period.
On the other hand, the non-seasonally employment rate decreased by 0.7% to 42.9% in February, compared to the same month of the previous year, while the number of employed people rose by 69,000 to 27,150,000.
Labor underutilization rate falls to 28.3%
The composite measure of labor underutilization rate consisting of time-related underemployment, potential labor force and unemployment dropped by 1.2 points to 28.3% in February, compared to the previous month. While the combined rate of time-related underemployment stood at 19.8%, the combined rate of potential labor force and unemployment reached 22.5%
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 12.2%, while the non-agriculture unemployment rate rose to 14.2% and the young unemployment rate reached 24.7% in January.
