Turkey’s unemployment rate rose by 0.2 percentage points to 9.1 percent in January compared to the previous month.
According to Household Labour Force Survey; the number of unemployed persons aged 15 years old and over increased by 85 thousand to 3 million 214 thousand persons in January 2024 compared to the previous month. As the unemployment rate estimated 9.1% with increased by 0.2 percentage point compared to the previous month; it was estimated 7.7% for men and 11.7% for women.
Employment rate at 49.0%
The number of employed persons increased by 160 thousand to 32 million 222 thousand persons in January 2024 compared to the previous month. The employment rate occurred as 49.0% with increased by 0.2 percentage point. In addition, this rate was 66.0% for men, 32.4% for women.
Labour force participation rate at 53.9%
The number of persons in the labour force realized as 35 million 436 thousand persons with increased by 245 thousand persons in January 2024 compared to the previous month. Labour force participation rate was 53.9% with increased by 0.3 percentage point. Also this rate was 71.5% for men, it was 36.6% for women.
Youth unemployment rate at 16.6%
The youth unemployment rate in the 15-24 age group was 16.6% with increased by 1.1 percentage point compared to the previous month. While this rate was estimated 14.1% for men and 21.1% for women.
Seasonally and calendar adjusted average weekly actual working hours was 43.3
Seasonally and calendar adjusted average weekly actual working hours of persons at work during the reference period estimated 43.3 hours with decreased by 0.4 hours compared to the previous month in January 2024.
Seasonally adjusted composite measure of labour underutilization rate realized as 26.5%
In January 2024, the rate of composite measure of labour underutilization consisting of time-related underemployment, potential labour force and unemployment was 26.5% with increased by 1.7 percentage point compared to the previous month. While combined rate of time-related underemployment and unemployment realized as 18.2%, combined rate of unemployment and potential labour force estimated as 18.3%.
