Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) announced labor force statistics for November 2023. According to the results of the Household Labor Force Survey; The number of unemployed people aged 15 and over increased by 115 thousand people in November 2023 compared to the previous month and became 3 million 116 thousand people. The unemployment rate increased by 0.4 points to 9 percent. The unemployment rate was estimated as 7.5 percent for men and 11.8 percent for women.
The number of employed persons decreased by 236 thousand to 31 million 611 thousand persons in November 2023 compared to the previous month. The employment rate occurred as 48.2 percent with a decrease of 0.4 percentage points. In addition, this rate was 65.4 percent for men, 31.3 percent for women.
The number of persons in the labor force decreased by 122 thousand persons in November 2023 compared to the previous month and realized as 34 million 726 thousand persons. Labor force participation rate declined by 0.2 points to 52.9 percent. This rate was 70.7 percent for men, it was 35.5 percent for women.
The youth unemployment rate increased by 0.3 points in November compared to the previous month and reached 16.5 percent. This rate was estimated at 14.2 percent for men and 20.7 percent for women.
Seasonally and calendar-adjusted average weekly actual working hours of persons at work during the reference period were estimated 43.8 hours with a decrease of 0.2 hours compared to the previous month in November 2023.
In November 2023, the rate of a composite measure of labor underutilization consisting of time-related underemployment, potential labor force and unemployment was 22.7 percent with an increase of 1.3 percentage points compared to the previous month. While the combined rate of time-related underemployment and unemployment was realized as 14.9 percent, the combined rate of unemployment and potential labor force was estimated as 17.3 percent.
