The national flag carrier Turkish Airlines (THY) carried 2.1 million passengers in May, according to a statement from the company. The company’s passenger occupancy rate hit 58.4% last month. THY carried 5.9 million passengers in May 2019, when the pandemic was at a low point. The number of passengers carried by the national flag carrier fell from 28.5 million to 11 million in the first five months of this year, compared to the same period of 2019. The passenger occupancy rate dropped by 19.3% to 60.8% in this period. The volume of cargo and post carried by the company rose by 23.1% from 129,441 tonnes to 159,318 tonnes in May, compared to May 2019. The cargo and post volume rose by 25.8% to 746,582 tonnes from 593,430 tonnes in the first five months, compared to the same period in 2019.
