Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), the global leader of the maritime industry, named the world’s largest container ship “MSC Türkiye”, which was launched in China in recent months, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye. The ship, which was named MSC Türkiye upon the suggestion of Ela Soyuer Aponte, wife of MSC President and Senior Executive Diego Aponte and daughter of Ahmet Soyuer, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Asyaport Port, made its first call at Asyaport Port yesterday, although it was not yet on the voyage route. The ship will serve on the Asia-Europe route after leaving Tekirdag.
“Turkey, my second home”
Speaking at the ceremony, MSC President and Chief Executive Officer Diego Aponte said that MSC Türkiye is the largest, most efficient, and environmentally friendly ship ever built and added: “As some of you know, Turkey is my second home, so I am very happy and proud of this ceremony in Tekirdag”
“MSC will bring the world to the doorsteps of our Turkish customers through the most fuel efficient network with a fleet of nearly 800 ships in 155 countries, 105 container terminals, worldwide logistics service coverage through Medlog, and a massive upcoming new building program,” Aponte said, thanking all customers in Türkiye for their cooperation with MSC. Aponte ended his speech by saying “Long live Türkiye” in Turkish.
