Operating in the tire and construction reinforcement as well as composite technologies fields, the Sabanci Holding subsidiary Kordsa will focus on electric vehicles (EVs) and their battery production, according to Murat Oguz Arcan, Chief Operating Officer of Composites at Kordsa. “In terms of EV expansion with mass production, carbon fiber is a good material option as the material protecting batteries needs a flexible structure and requires bending stiffness,” said Arcan. Kordsa, which has 12 production plants in Turkey, the U.S., Brazil, Thailand and Indonesia, established the Composite Technologies Center of Excellence in collaboration with Sabanci University in 2016 with a USD 35m investment. “We allocate nearly USD 15m for R&D corresponding to 2% of our turnover,” said Arcan.
