Technology company Kontrolmatik Teknoloji has laid the foundation of a USD 60m lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery cell and energy storage systems manufacturing plant in Polatli Ankara. The facility will start production in the final quarter (Q4) of this year, according to Sami Aslanhan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kontrolmatik Teknoloji.
The firm has also established a 100% subsidiary, Pomega Enerji Depolama Teknologileri, which will operate in energy storage systems.
“We aim to meet the increasing demand of the sector with LifePO4 battery cells, modules, and energy storage systems manufacturing. We aim to support the fields that need high energy storage, such as power plants, urban networks, factories, home appliances, equipment, vessels, and trains,” said Aslanhan.
The first phase of the manufacturing plant, which will have three phases in total, will have a capacity of 250 megawatts (MW). The facility will reach 1,000 MW when all three phases are completed.
“The first phase will be completed in Q4 2022, while the second and third phases will be completed in Q4 2023 and Q3 2025, respectively. Our total investment will reach nearly USD 180m by the end of the project,” said Aslanhan.
The production plant, which will employ 250 people in its first phase, will create 600 new jobs in total.
