The Japanese carmaker Toyota’s subsidiary in Turkey, Toyota Otomotiv Sanayi Türkiye (TMMT), has started mass production of its new generation C-HR PHEV model at its Sakarya plant.
Toyota has additionally invested EUR 308m in the production of the new model, bringing its total investments to EUR 2.5bn in Turkey.
“We’ll have new export markets with the Toyota C-HR PHEV. Now, we’ll export cars manufactured by TMMT to Australia and New Zealand. So far, our exports have amounted to USD 50bn,” said Erdogan Sahin, General Manager and CEO of TMMT.
The firm’s Sakarya plant has an annual production capacity of 280,000 units.
As part of the Toyota C-HR PHEV project, the 12th project of Toyota in Turkey, TMMT has put into use a new PHEV battery production facility with an annual capacity of 75,000 units and an environmentally friendly water-based paint line.
TMMT plans to produce 35,000-40,000 Toyota C-HR PHEVs this year and 140,000 Toyota C-HR PHEVs next year.
TMMT also plans to export 90% of the output.
