Fatma Sahin becomes first Turkish mayor invited by OECD


Fatma Sahin, President of the Union of Municipalities of Turkey (TBB) and Mayor of Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality has become the first Mayor from the country included in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development’s (OECD) Champion Mayors Coalition for Inclusive Growth Initiative founded in 2016 to response to the social and economic inequalities at the local government level. Sahin received the invitation, jointly signed by the Secretary-General of the OECD Angel Gurria and Chair of the OECD Champion Mayors and Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo. “The humanitarian perspective is as important as the economy for a sustainable world. We showed an extraordinary effort to protect Gaziantep’s land, water and air,” said Sahin, who received the invitation with a reception held in Ankara from the Parliament Speaker Mustafa Sentop, Justice Minister Abdulhamit Gul, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlut Cavusoglu and Acting Chairman of AK Party Binali Yildirim
