According to a statement by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the bank has invested in a minority stake in Biotrend, a subsidiary of Doganlar Holding’s that operates in the renewables industry. With the investment, the bank aims to promote private-sector participation in municipal waste management. With EBRD support, the waste-to-energy firm Biotrend will advance corporate governance and climate-risk management, adopt higher environmental standards and procurement practices, and promote gender equality in the workplace. “Private companies with knowhow, such as Biotrend, can help cities address the waste challenge while increasing the capacity of renewable energy,” said Arvid Tuerkner, Managing Director for Turkey at the EBRD. Biotrend operates 18 waste-to-energy plants in various across Turkey with a total capacity of 72.6 megawatts.
