In June, current account posted a surplus of USD 407 million, and it was the first current account surplus after 9 months.
Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) announced the balance of payments data for June.
The current account gave a surplus of USD 407 million in June. While the current account balance last gave a surplus of USD 2.44 billion in September 2023, a surplus was given 9 months later.
While the annualized current account deficit was USD 24.8 billion, the current account excluding gold and energy gave a surplus of USD 4.5 billion.
Deficit in foreign trade
Balance of payments-defined foreign trade deficit was realized as USD 4.1 billion. Net inflows from the balance of services were calculated as USD 5.6 billion, while net income from travel was USD 4.8 billion.
The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) made the following statement:
“Current account excluding gold and energy posted a surplus of USD 4,549 million.
Balance of payments-defined foreign trade deficit was realized as USD 4,139 million.
Net inflows from the balance of services were realized as USD 5,603 million. Under this item, net inflows stemming from the travel item amounted to USD 4,790 million.
Primary income balance and secondary income balance recorded net outflows of USD 1,055 million and USD 2 million, respectively.
