Cengiz Holding and Mapa Group’s construction subsidiaries Cengiz Insaat and MAPA have won a EUR 1bn highway tender in Romania. The companies will jointly construct the second phase of the Sibiu-Pitesti Highway between Boita and Cornetu.
The second section of the Sibiu-Pitesti Highway between Boita and Cornetu will be 32 kilometers long and will be completed in 2027, according to Romanian Transport Minister Sorin Grindeanu.
The project, the contract for which was signed with the state-owned Romanian National Road Infrastructure Company (CNAIR), will be financed by European Union funds.
The construction of the second section, which will be the first highway to pass through the Carpathian Mountains, is considered the most difficult phase of the project.
