Beko, Turkey’s most widespread global production powerhouse, opened its 46th factory in Egypt. Increasing the number of production countries to 14, Beko also opened its 31st R&D center in Egypt. Aiming to be the leader in Egypt, Beko has also put investment in South America on its agenda.
Beko, Koç Holding’s fast-growing white goods company in the global market, launched its 46th factory in Egypt. Producing in 14 countries, Beko’s first facility in the Middle East was established with an investment of USD 110 million.
The factory, which targets Egypt as well as neighboring countries with a population of 500 million, will reach a capacity of 1.5 million units/year when completed. Beko, which ranks among the top three in the Egyptian market, aims to be the leader in the region with the synergy created by the plant and the R&D center.
Built on an area of 114,000 m2 in the 10th Ramadan Industrial Zone located on the desert near Cairo, the factory will produce Beko, Whirlpool, Ariston, Indesit and Hitachi refrigerators, cookers and dishwashers. With an annual capacity of 1.5 million, 60 percent of the factory’s production will be exported to the Middle East, Africa and Europe. The factory will employ 2000 people.
Beko’s plant is a turning point for Egypt
Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, who attended the inauguration, said that Beko’s factory is an important milestone for Egypt’s economic growth and international influence. “The creative ideas of young Egyptians came to life in the Beko factory with the support of the R&D departments of Egyptian universities and the contribution of our skilled Egyptian workforce, and this project was successfully realized,” he said.
Beko CEO Hakan Bulgurlu said that they will reach a capacity of 1.5 million units in the new facility within two years as planned, and that they plan to increase production to 3 million units by the end of the fourth year. Bulgurlu said: “The Middle East and North Africa are among the critical markets for us. As a bridge between Europe, Asia and Africa, this geography has a significant potential with a population of 500 million and a white goods market volume of 13 million. As Beko, we are one of the top 3 companies in 6 main white goods groups in this market; we are the market leader in the dishwasher category. We are creating an important regional base by combining our global production and technology competencies with Egypt’s strengths and strategic location.”
“30 percent of total sales come from Turkey. And 50 percent of our total production is in Turkey. We are growing both internationally and in Turkey. Turkey is still our biggest power center both in production and in designing R&D for the world” Bulgurlu said.
