The unemployment rate declined from 13.4% to 13.1% in March, compared to the previous month, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat).
The number of unemployed people aged 15 and over rose by 59,000 to 4.2 million in March, compared to the previous month. The unemployment rate fell to 13.1%, down by 0.3% in this period.
The number of employed people increased by 550,000 to 28 million on monthly basis. The employment rate rose by 0.8 points to 44.3% in this period. The labor force participation rose by 0.9% to 51%.
The youth unemployment down to 25%
The youth unemployment in the 15-24 age group declined by 0.7 points to 25% in March, compared to the previous month. The youth employment rose by 1.4 points to 31.4% in this period. The labor force participation in this age group increased by 1.5 points to 41.9% on monthly basis.
Labor underutilization rate declines to 25.8%
The rate of composite measure of labor underutilization consisting of time-related underemployment, potential labor force and unemployment dropped by 2.3 points to 25.8% in March, compared to the previous month. The combined rate of the time-related underemployment and unemployment reached 18.2%, while the combined rate of potential labor force and unemployment totaled 21.2%.
The non-seasonally adjusted unemployment hits 13.1%
The non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose by 0.1% to 13.1% in March, compared to the same month of the previous year. The number of unemployed people increased by 288,000 to 4.1 million in this period. The non-seasonally adjusted employment rate rose by 2.1% to 44% on annual basis. The number of employed people increased by 1.8 million to 27.9 million in this period.
