Explaining the Ministry’s 2023 activities and projects for 2024, Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır reported that they have reached the stage of investment location and investment incentives for the production of Chinese electric car companies in Turkey.
Kacır said that he met with BYD CEO for 3.5 hours during his trip to China, and that negotiations with leading Chinese electric car brands Chery, MG and others are ongoing for production in Turkey.
Stating that the world’s transition to electric cars is faster than expected, Kacır said that China is catching up with the European automotive industry in this field. Kacır said that battery production, which China started long ago, was effective in China’s catching up in electric vehicle production. Noting that the size of China’s domestic market provides great flexibility in exports to this country, Kacır said: “Last year, 14 million of the 23 million electric and hybrid cars sold in the world were sold in China.”
Minister Kacır emphasized that in addition to the domestic wind turbine brand, a domestic high-speed train brand and a domestic autonomous electric car brand will be created, and noted that the TOGG Sedan-Coupe will be in production in 2025. Fatih Kacır also informed that the vehicle is currently on display at a technology fair in the USA.
Kacır said that 19,589 units of TOGG were sold in approximately 8 months in 2023, and considering the demand of over 70 thousand, sales are expected to triple in 2024.
