The transit record from Bulgaria, the gate to Europe on the road export route, has been broken. The number of daily trucks exiting from the Kapikule and Hamzabeyli Customs Gates reached 2,000 for the first time last week with the Bulgarian side’s completion of improvements on the border following Turkey’s own infrastructure upgrades. The transfer of vehicles from both gates increased by nearly 40%, compared to the same period of the previous year. Truckers suffering from the European border’s excruciatingly-long queue for years can now finally enjoy a smooth journey as vehicles coming to the border pass without according to Fatih Sener, Head of Strategy and Business Development of the International Transporters Association (UND). The number daily exists from Kapikule rose to 1,330 and from Hamzabeyli reached up to 640. The number exiting trucks will first be increased to 2,500 and then to 3,000, according to Sener.
