Turkey’s tourism revenues soared 32.3% to USD 8.69bn in the first quarter of the year, compared to the same period of the previous year, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat). The number of foreign tourists hosted by the country surged by 26.8% to 8.18 million in the same period. Turkish citizens residing abroad accounted for 20.4%, or 1.67 million of the total number of visitors. They also constituted 20.8% of total tourism revenues. Russia topped in terms of the distribution of visitors by the country. The number of Russian, Bulgarian, and German tourists jumped, 114.18%, 28.09%, and 20.66%, respectively in the first quarter, year-over-year. Iranian and Georgian tourists followed Germany. The number of Russian, Bulgarian, and German visitors totaled 772,681, 523,150, and 504,847, respectively, in the same period.
