Petrochemical company SASA Polyester Sanayi AS will build Europe’s first CTC (carbon tetrachloride) production plant in Yumurtalik, Adana, according to Dr. Mehmet Seker, member of the board of the company.
“The manufacturing plant will be the first CTC facility in Europe. We’ll manufacture around 12 million tons of chemical products needed by our country with this facility,” said Seker.
The company put into use two new polyester production plants in 2021. “With the support of these facilities, our production rose by 71% from 722,000 tons to 1.2 million tons and our turnover surged by 290% from TRY 5bn to TRY 14.6bn in 2021, as compared to 2020,” Seker added. The manufacturing plants have also paved the way for the firm to raise its annual production capacity to 1.4 million tons in total.
SASA Polyester AS plans to launch its USD 935m PTA (pure terephthalic acid) facility in the first half of 2023. “Our PTA facility investment, which we started in 2021, will help to close Turkey’s current account deficit with a production capacity of 1.6 million tons,” Seker noted.
The firm will also set up new fiber and polyester chips facilities with a total production capacity of 700,000 tons this year. “Our total production capacity will reach 2.1 million tons when these facilities are completed in 2024,” Seker added.
SASA Polyester AS, which exports to 50 countries, exported over 141,000 tons of fiber to 43 countries, achieving a foreign sales volume of USD 428m on a value basis in 2021. The company plans to be more active internationally, especially in the U.S. market, after its new fiber and polyester chips facilities are completed.
