Türk-İş, Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions, shared the November results of the ‘Hunger and Poverty Line’ survey with the public. According to the research, the hunger limit for a family of four living in Ankara increased to TRY 14,025. The poverty line rose to TRY 45,686. The ‘cost of living’ of a single worker rose to TRY 18,239 per month. The current minimum wage in Turkey is TRY 11,402 per month in 2023.
Annual food inflation at 80.12%
The increase in the minimum expenditure amount that a family of four living in Ankara should make “for food” was realized as 2.49 percent compared to the previous month. Annual food inflation was 80.12 percent.
According to Türk-İş calculations based on prices compiled directly from the market, the changes in food products as of November 2023 were as follows by expenditure groups:
Milk, yogurt and cheese;
Milk prices increased by 8.5 percent compared to the previous month and sold at an average price of 34.5 TL per liter in grocery stores. Cheese and yogurt prices remained at the same level as last month.
There was no significant change in meat prices compared to last month; in most of the markets, minced beef was sold at an average price of TRY 331 and cubed beef was sold at an average price of TRY 356.
Chicken prices were TRY 69 per kg on average in November, while eggs were sold at TRY 3.77 per kg, down slightly compared to last month.
As in the last month, anchovies continue to be sold at TRY 100 per kg on the stalls this month. Sea fish, which are in the highest demand on the counters due to the increase in fish variety these days as we enter the winter season, were sold at an average of TRY 172 this month.
There was an increase in all legumes. The highest increase in this group was seen in chickpeas. Chickpeas increased by 21 percent on average compared to last month. In November, chickpea prices took their place in the markets at an average price of 85 TL per kg.
The price of 200 gram bread continues to be sold at TRY 7 in Ankara. The monthly bread cost for a family of 4 is TRY 735.
