US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) officials searched the home of Brianna Suggs, New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ chief campaign fundraiser, as part of a corruption probe.
According to statements by city officials and local media reports, Suggs was questioned by the departments conducting the public corruption investigation.
The early morning raid was part of a federal investigation into whether the Turkish government funneled foreign money to Mayor Adams’ 2021 mayoral campaign through a Brooklyn-based construction company, the New York Times reported, citing a search warrant. In the US, it is illegal to donate in one’s own name with someone else’s money.
The FBI had not commented at the time of writing, while a spokesperson for the Turkish embassy in Washington said it had just learned of the charges and needed to investigate before commenting.
