The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has invested USD 40m in a USD 500m worth Eurobond issued by the brewery company Anadolu Efes Biracilik ve Malt Sanayii AS, according to a statement from the EBRD.
Thus, Anadolu Efes has gained access to the international capital markets to refinance its USD 500m worth Eurobond maturing in 2022.
The EBRD has financed Anadolu Efes’ operations not only in Turkey but in Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldova and Russia.
Anadolu Efes plans to expand its operations in sustainability and create opportunities for women and youth by the support of the EBRD. In this context, its collaboration with the EBRD is part of the bank’s strategy to strengthen the country’s knowledge economy, develop skills of the youth and support women’s empowerment through trainings.
The EBRD has invested over EUR 13bn in the country through 337 projects, 96% of which are in the private sector. The bank assisted the country during the COVID-19 pandemic as it raised its financing from EUR 1bn to EUR 1.7bn in 2020 through 35 projects carried out in 2019. In 2021, the Bank will support the country’s post COVID-19 recovery, according to the institution.
