The paint industry came together at the 9th International Paintistanbul & Turkcoat Congress and Exhibition with the theme of “sustainability and innovation”. The future of the industry was discussed with the conferences held at the event attended by approximately one thousand people representing different areas of the industry.
Speaking at the event, Adil Pelister, President of Istanbul Chemicals and Chemical Products Exporters’ Association, said that the sector aims to reach USD 50 billion in exports by 2030. “The chemical industry, which closed 2022 with USD 33.6 billion in exports, is the leader of exports. We anticipate that our sector will close 2023 with exports of over USD 31 billion. Although we are a sector that meets approximately 13 percent of our country’s exports, we are not at the level we want on a global scale. Our goal is to reach USD 50 billion of exports in 2030.” Asking the participants to participate in international delegations and events, Pelister underlined that the Chemical Technology Center, which will be opened in the summer of 2024, will also contribute to the sector.
Pelister said that sustainability, digitalization, artificial intelligence, innovation and functionality is an issue that concerns not only the paint industry but also all industrial branches, especially chemistry, and added: “Sustainability, where we will build the future without ruining our present, will enable us to fulfill the realities of the new world. If we cannot take advantage of the opportunities that arise here, we may miss the opportunities in the future.”
In his opening speech, Kenan Baytaş, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Paint Industrialists’ Association, said that Turkey has a 2 percent share in the global paint market of USD 192 billion and pointed out that the Turkish paint industry ranks 5th in Europe with a total volume of nearly 1 million tons. Stating that the paint industry is very important for Turkey, Kenan Baytas said, “With the support of our stakeholders, we are moving our industry forward. In this context, I would like to thank everyone who contributed.”
