The graduation and delivery ceremony of the AKINCI Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle (UCAV) developed by Baykar as part of the AKINCI Project was held at the Bayraktar AKINCI Flight Training and Test Center with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Completing its first flight on December 6, 2019, the first batch of Bayraktar AKINCI UCAV was delivered to the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) during the ceremony, according to a statement from Baykar. “With our UCAV AKINCI, Turkey has become one of the three most advanced countries in the world in this technology,” said President Erdogan. “The nation’s goal is to develop armed drones which are able to take off and land on aircraft carriers with short runways for use in missions abroad,” he added. Erdogan also praised the country’s extensive use of home-sourced defense products, which in recent years leaped from 20% to about 80%. The country has signed new export agreements on drones manufactured by local defense companies with more than 10 countries, including NATO member Poland, according to President Erdogan.
