Consumer prices (CPI) increased by 2.47 percent in August, and annual inflation was calculated as 51.97 percent. Economists predicted that CPI would increase by 2.64 percent in August and annual inflation would fall to 52.20 percent.
According to the inflation data announced by Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), transportation with 28.96% was the main group that indicated the lowest annual increase. On the other hand, education with 120.81% was the main group where the highest annual increase realized.
In August 2024, food and non-alcoholic beverages with -1.10% was the main group that indicated a monthly decrease. On the other hand, education with 11.34% was the main group where the highest monthly increase realized.
In August 2024, within indices of 143 basic headings in the index, the index of 22 basic headings decreased, and the index of 3 basic headings remained unchanged while the index of 118 basic headings increased.
A change in CPI excluding unprocessed food, energy, alcoholic beverages, tobacco and gold was realized in CPI (2003=100) on the previous month by 2.88%, on December of the last year by 32.19%, on same month of the prior year by 50.87% and on the twelve months moving averages basis by 66.79% in August 2024.
