After being nominated by top party officials, Recep Tayyip Erdogan was re-elected chairman for a seventh term at the party’s 7th Ordinary Grand Congress. Out of 1,431 ballots, Erdogan got 1,428 valid votes, and there were three spoiled ballots, according to Ali Ihsan Yavuz, the party’s deputy chair.
Separately, the party also elected 75 members of its Central Decision and Executive Board (MKYK). As Numan Kurtulmus and Binali Yildirim became the deputy chairmen of the ruling AK Party, Omer Celik was re-elected the party’s spokesman.
“As the highest managing body, our MYKY will manage all political processes regarding the 2023-2024 elections in the upcoming period,” said Celik to journalists during the ongoing MYKY meeting. Celik also announced the names that enter the new MYKY.
Accordingly, Fatih Sahin will serve in AK Party’s Central Executive Board as the secretary-general and Hayati Yazici became the director for the party’s political and legal affairs.
While Naci Bostanci continues to serve as the parliamentary group chairman of the party, Mahir Unal and Mustafa Elitas became parliamentary group deputy chairmen by taking over the seat from Mehmet Mus and Ozlem Zengin. Ozlem Zengin will continue to serve as Civil Society and Public Relations Chairwoman. Bulent Turan, Emin Akbasoglu, and Cahit Ozkan are other parliamentary group deputy chairmen of the AK Party.
Omer Ileri was appointed the Chairman of the newly established Information and Communication Chairmanship, while Hamza Dag and Julide Sarieroglu became, Publicity and Media Chairman and Social Policies Chairwoman, respectively.
Meanwhile, Nurettin Canikli from AK Party was appointed the Chairman of Economic Affairs, while Vedat Demiroz became Financial and Administrative Affairs Chairman and Mustafa Sen will serve as R&D Chairman.
Erkan Kandermir will serve as Organization Chairman, Fatih Sahin became Chairman of General Secretariat, Hayati Yazici was appointed the Chairman of Political and Legal Affairs, Leyla Sahin Usta will serve as Human Rights Chairwoman of AK Party and Cigdem Karaaslan was appointed as the Environment, Urbanism and Culture Chairwoman. Ali Ihsan Yavuz, Efkan Ala and Mehmet Ozhaseki will serve as Election Affairs Chairman, Foreign Affairs Chairman and Local Administration Chairman, respectively.
