The number of newly opened small businesses in Turkey rose by 14.8% year on year in the January-November period, despite economic stagnation and a disinflation program aimed at cooling demand.
According to data from the Confederation of Turkish Tradesmen and Craftsmen, 287,867 new tradesmen businesses opened during the period, while closures remained almost unchanged at 103,176. This translates into an average of 872 openings and 312 closures per day.
January recorded the highest number of openings, while June saw the lowest. In November alone, new business openings fell by 3.3% from a year earlier, while closures declined by 1%.
As of the end of November, the total number of tradesmen in Turkey stood at around 2.3 million, accounting for roughly 2.7% of the population.
